People within a one-mile radius of a Winston-Salem fertilizer plant were asked to evacuate following a fire on Monday night.
NBC affiliate WXII reports the fire is at Weaver Fertilizer Plant in the 4400 block of Cherry Street.
No injuries have been reported from the fire, WXII said.
The evacuations, which included off-campus Wake Forest University housing, was because of dangerous fumes and the potential for an explosion of a large volume of ammonium nitrate that is on-site.
Wake Forest students can go to the Wellbeing Center, Benson University Center and ZSR library. Students can bring a sleeping bag, pillow or blanket to be comfortable, university officials said.
University officials said they are working on long-term plans for those who don’t have an alternative place to go.
